The Door Sensor enables you to sense if a door is open(ed) or close(ed). Additionally it measures the temperature and detects if the device is tampered, meaning the main unit is opened or an external contact is opened.
The BeNExt Door Sensor is larger than products you can get from other vendors mainly due to the choice to use two AAA batteries as power supply. While this increases the size, it provides a longer battery life (indicated 5 year with normal use) and cheaper batteries.
- Press and hold the tamper switch for about two seconds until the LED starts to blink and release to start the inclusion process. The LED blinks once per second once it is in learning mode and will blink two times per second once added.
- Press and hold the tamper switch for two seconds until the LED starts to blink and release to start the exclude process. The LED blinks once per second once it is in learning mode and will blink three times every 1.5 second once removed.
Tips & Tricks¶
Press the tamper switch four seconds to have the door sensor wake up and send a wake up notification. This can be handy when configuring the device so you do not have to wait until the sensor periodically wakes up.
When you do not configure anything, you will not able to receive alarms when the door is opened/closed or when the tamper switch is opened. The door sensor has two association groups, one for the internal door contact (magnet) and one for the tamper switch/external door contact. Normally you want to add at least the controller to both groups.
Adding devices to the association groups can be done using the Z-Wave commander:
The Node ID for the controller is normally 1.
Using it as recessed door sensor¶
Although not meant for it, the BeNext door sensor can be also used a recessed door sensor.
Some photos to illustrate the idea:
- When placing the magnet rectangular to the sensor instead of parallel as in the normal case, place it 1..2 cm out of the center line as the magnet field in line with the axis of the magnet is zero.
- You can mount the sensor in the shaft using double sided tape
